I made many hundreds of parts on a round column Enco mill. I bought mine in the 70's when the only other option was a Bridgeport mill. Over the years I read about all the fixes and modifications people had done to be able to move the head up and down accurately but decided it wasn't worth the time because it wasn't dead accurate.

The old Vactra oils are now labelled "Vacuoline". Lathe ways are typically Vactra #2 (old)/ Vacuoline 1409(new). Mills often use the heavier oil because of the vertical ways-you want maximum cling time to those vertical dovetails. The lathe oils are typically ISO 68 weight. My mill uses ISO 220 weight which I think used to be called Vactra #4.
